Hull Maritime needs to raise £2.6m for this project to become a reality.

Please help us to raise this funding.

From becoming a Patron or Corporate Member to making a regular gift to Hull Maritime Foundation, every penny will help us preserve and share the extraordinary maritime collections that tell the stories of Hull’s proud sea-faring past which gave the city links across the world. Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City is an ambitious project but it will be transformational not only for our heritage but also for our city.

Please help us to expand and enrich our collections, provide a warm welcome to our visitors, enable outreach across Hull’s communities and keep our doors open to all.

How to support Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City

Hull Maritime Foundation supports the museum by raising funds to develop its collections, buildings and programmes, so more people have the chance to enjoy Hull’s maritime history and culture. It was set up as a charity in 2018.

In response to many enquiries about supporting the Hull Maritime project, we have set up Maritime Friends. The Maritime Friends programme has two objectives:

  • To bring our supporters closer to Hull’s maritime heritage;
  • To raise funds so that we can make the Hull Maritime project a reality for our city.

Your support is really important to us – especially in the uncertain times that we are currently living in.

Legacy Giving

You don’t need to be wealthy to leave a legacy. A gift in your Will, however large or small, will help to preserve Hull Maritime Museum and its collections and make a positive difference to future generations of visitors and many local people who take part in our learning activities and public events every year.

A legacy left to Hull Maritime Foundation, the supportive charitable arm of the museum, could support our work in many ways. It could help maintain our collections or provide for the conservation and long-term care of stored items. It could support our education and outreach work. It could provide facilities for our visitors to ensure that the museum is welcoming and comfortable for all.

The museum works with a range of partners, through education and learning programmes, to improve people’s wellbeing, with activities including curatorial conversations and cake at our community café, craft time for young families, and animation workshops for older children.

Types of legacy

There are three main types of legacy:

Residuary Legacy

A gift of the remainder or a percentage of your estate after all debts, taxes, expenses and other bequests have been made.

Pecuniary Legacy

A fixed sum donation decided by you.

Specific Legacy

You may wish to leave the museum a particular, named item as a gift in your Will, for example a work of art, property or stocks and shares. If you are considering leaving a specific item to the museum, please discuss your plans with us before you commit them to your Will, as this will help us plan the growth of our collections.

If you would like to discuss making a bequest to the museum, please complete the Contact Us form or email hymc@hullcc.gov.uk.
