Hull City Council has published a decision record confirming the approval to proceed with the procurement process for a contractor who will undertake vital improvements around Hull Marina, particularly near the Murdoch’s Connection footbridge.
These enhancements mark the final phase of preparation ahead of the reopening of the Spurn Lightship as a floating museum, following its extensive 14-month restoration.
The project will see a new section of high-quality sandstone paving introduced, designed to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding landscape and improve accessibility and pedestrian connectivity within the Hull Marina area. The proposed hard and soft landscaping works will also include the installation of decorative railings around the marina's edge, aligning with and enhancing the recent upgrades already completed to the east of the bridge.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “This is an exciting milestone for Hull, as we continue to transform the marina area. These improvements will not only enhance the beauty of the marina but also improve accessibility for residents and visitors alike, while complementing the restoration of the Spurn Lightship.
“This project further strengthens our commitment to preserving Hull’s maritime heritage while creating a vibrant and welcoming space for the community to enjoy.”
The successful contractor will be tasked with completing the work in preparation for the Spurn Lightship’s reopening as a floating museum, a key attraction in Hull’s rich maritime history. This final stage of the project aims to ensure the area around the marina is both visually appealing and functional, offering visitors a memorable experience as they explore the newly restored lightship.
The procurement exercise will get underway in the coming weeks.
