The restoration of the Arctic Corsair, by Dunston's Ship Repairs, continues with more progress being made.

Here is the latest update on some of the procedures being carried out.

Main deck

Work is being carried out around the Main Deck Fish Room hatches to prepare for fitting the Lift Shaft which will operate in the Fish Room to transfer wheelchairs to the Lower Fish Room and the Mezannine Deck which will allow wheelchair access to the lower Forecastle Spaces.

Relaying the wooden deck

These images are showing the progress on replacing the Deck Timbers, where the planks are being laid, drilled in position to mark the retaining Stud position, then lift the planks and weld the studs in position. The Deck is then painted before the timber is finally re-laid and secured to the Deck.

Boat Deck

These images show the cutting and welding work being carried out on the Boat Deck replacing foundations on the Bollards and Fairleaders used for mooring the vessel. The Images show the doubler plates which have been fitted to the Deck which was badly corroded and pitted.


Wheelhouse

These image shows the progress being made in the restoration of the Wheelhouse and the newly laid Lattice floor.

Main Fish Room

This image shows the Fish Room and the Pit which has been constructed for fitting a lift in the Fish Room for wheelchair access.

Lower Forecastle Space

This image shows the Lower Forecastle Space currently being painted.
