Two Fishermen’s Memorial books have been temporarily moved from Hull Maritime Museum and relocated to Hull History Centre so people can continue to pay their respects to the thousands of fishermen who were lost at sea.
As works to the museum get underway and for the duration of the closure, the St Andrew’s Memorial Books, created in 2002, will be on public display at Hull History Centre, off Worship Street. The books will form part of the Maritime Museum’s new displays when it re-opens, within a room dedicated to the memory of loved ones lost at sea.
Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Economic Investment, Regeneration, Planning, Land and Property, said: “For many people remembering the people who dedicated their lives to the sea is really important to them and that’s why it is vital these beautiful memorial books remain publically accessible.”
Ron Wilkinson, Chair of STAND, said: “I would like to thank the Museum Officers for re-locating the books rather than just placing them in storage during the refurbishment period, thereby allowing the public continued access.”
Each day the page will continue to be turned, to show the vessels and the men who were lost on that date.
