In memory of Len Featherstone: A life anchored to the sea

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Len Featherstone, a cherished volunteer and an irreplaceable part of the Arctic Corsair’s story. Len’s connection to the vessel ran deep - he often said that every time he stepped aboard, it felt like stepping into a part of himself. Each corner of the ship held a memory, each piece of equipment a story waiting to be told.

Len first began contributing to the Arctic Corsair in 2015, while still actively serving as a skipper and advising the government of the Falkland Islands. Despite his demanding professional commitments, he generously gave his time and expertise to support the preservation and interpretation of Hull’s maritime heritage. His tours of the Corsair were more than informative - they were vivid, personal journeys through the life of a trawlerman, filled with tales of adventure, hardship, and camaraderie at sea.His contributions went far beyond storytelling. Len played a vital role in the ship’s refurbishment, offering invaluable advice on maintenance and display.

Earlier this year, he and Vic Wheeldon from STAND guided us on how best to present the fishing gear aboard the newly restored vessel - just one of many instances where Len’s insight shaped the Corsair’s future.Len dedicated his life to the sea, and his legacy lives on in the Arctic Corsair and in the hearts of all who had the privilege to spend time with him. His deep knowledge, warm presence, and endless stories will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Fair winds and following seas, Len.
