Vital improvements are now underway at Humber Dock Street.

The improvement works undertaken by C R Reynolds, funded by National Highways and Hull City Council, are part of ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the area, making it more accessible and inviting for both residents and visitors.

Humber Dock Street is integral to a new maritime trail designed to connect the city’s rich maritime heritage. These historic locations not only serve as vital routes linking the Old Town and the Fruit Market and tell Hull’s maritime story.

Work is now underway

Key features of the Humber Dock Street upgrades include:

  • Resurfacing and repair to the dockside promenade to improve accessibility for all
  • New signage information boards to help tell its maritime story
  • Additional tree planting and installation of new seating and play elements to enhance vibrancy

Diversions for pedestrians are now in place and a small section of Humber Dock Street will be closed to vehicles and parking will be suspended.

Events for people, residents and businesses to learn more and provide feedback took place in August 2024 and helped shape the final plans.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Roads and Highways, said: “These enhancements will complement the new maritime trail, connecting key heritage sites being revitalised under the Hull Maritime programme.

“Our plans aim to create more inclusive and accessible spaces, featuring new landscaping, seating, and improved heritage interpretation, alongside the introduction of a new green space on Humber Dock Street.”

Work on these vital improvements is expected to be completed later this year, marking a significant step towards enriching Hull’s urban environment and enhancing its cultural offerings.
