Updated plans for a newly designed area dedicated to peace and contemplation within Queen's Gardens have been revealed, ensuring a welcoming space for those remembering lost loved ones.

The revisions to the Peace Garden within the cherished green space in the city centre follow extensive feedback from residents, businesses, and local community groups, highlighting the need for more accessible seating.

In response to community input, the latest plans now incorporate additional seating solutions designed for accessibility and comfort, ensuring visitors of all ages and abilities can fully enjoy the space.

Initially proposed in late 2024, the artists’ impressions aimed to create a serene environment where people could find solace in nature.

Since 1986, the Peace Garden at the eastern end of the garden has provided visitors with a quiet area for reflection and contemplation. As part of the wider plans for Queen’s Gardens, this space has been sensitively redesigned to create a space for quiet contemplation and to remember those who lost their lives during the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The improvements are part of the vision to create a welcoming space where visitors can pause, relax and enjoy the surrounding planting and views over the newly refurbished eastern pond, towards the Wilberforce Monument. By focusing on seating and accessibility, we hope that more people will benefit from this tranquil part of the gardens.
