Hull’s Maritime Museum has been shortlisted for two awards at the Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards, recognising the newly transformed attraction’s significant contribution to the region’s cultural sector and its role in showcasing Hull’s rich maritime heritage.

The museum, which officially reopened on Saturday 8 August following a major restoration and redevelopment programme, has been named a finalist in the Large Tourist Attraction of the Year and and the re-opening of the museum shortlisted for Cultural Event of the Year categories.

The double nomination comes just weeks after the museum welcomed visitors back through its doors and highlights the positive impact the attraction is already making on residents, visitors and the wider tourism industry across Yorkshire.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “To be shortlisted for two prestigious tourism awards so soon after reopening is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication that has gone into transforming Hull Maritime Museum.

“The museum tells the story of Hull’s unique relationship with the sea and celebrates the people, industries and communities that helped shape our city. These nominations recognise not only the quality of the visitor experience on offer but also the museum’s importance to the region’s cultural sector and the efforts that went into celebrating the re-opening of the museum in August as a key cultural event for the city and wider region..

“We are incredibly proud to see Hull’s maritime heritage being recognised on a regional stage and wish all those shortlisted the very best of luck.”

The Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards celebrate excellence across Yorkshire’s tourism, culture and hospitality sectors. This year’s judging panel was made up of industry experts from a range of fields.
