Hull Maritime celebrated the achievements of its learners at the Maritime Futures presentations, held at the historic Minerva Masonic Lodge on Dagger Lane.

This event showcased the transformative power of training and community investment, honouring ten Maritime Futures trainees who successfully completed the intensive training.

More than half of those who completed the course have already found employment as a direct result of completing the course.

The impact of these events and courses has been phenomenal, with feedback such as:
“The sessions made my time off work very fun and made us get up ready, out, and active.”

“The activities are brilliant; they allow us to interact with one another and help with social and personal development.”

A pivotal supporter of this success is Hull Training and Adult Education (HTAE). Through funding from the Multiply programme, which focuses on improving adult numeracy and workplace skills, HTAE has significantly contributed to the course’s emphasis on maths-based maritime skills. Trinity House Maritime Charity DFT Fund is also match funding the training programme.

Hull Maritime, funded by Hull City Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, is revitalizing the city’s maritime landmarks with a focus on people. Training, volunteering, and apprenticeships have led to remarkable results, with more than 80 per cent of participants securing employment in the maritime sector.

The Maritime Futures training programme, delivered by East Coast Maritime Training, enables participants to gain an accredited qualification to support them in entering a career at sea.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Thanks to this additional funding, Maritime Futures can continue for another year enabling more young people to gain this accredited qualification and start their career within the maritime industry. They had the opportunity to meet former trawlermen and learn first-hand what it’s like to work at sea and dedicate their life to providing for others.

“Well done to those who recently completed the latest course.”

Claudia Carrizo-Smallwood, Programme Officer and Contract Manager for Multiply, expressed her pride and optimism: "I am immensely proud of the trainees' achievements and incredibly optimistic about their futures in the maritime sector. This success underscores the profound impact that community support and investment in individual potential can have."

She added, "This major project is an integral part of Hull City Council's City Plan, aimed at making our city an attractive place to visit.”

The next three-week course takes place on Monday 2 August. For more information visit here.
