Hull City Council has been shortlisted in two categories at the Insider Yorkshire Property Awards 2026, recognising excellence and outstanding achievements across the region’s property sector.
The awards ceremony will take place at New Dock Hall in Leeds on Thursday 24 September 2026, bringing together the people and organisations responsible for designing, developing, funding, building and managing Yorkshire’s built environment.
In the Refurbishment/Renovation of the Year category, the nomination recognises the ambitious transformation of the Grade II* listed Hull Maritime Museum, originally constructed as the city’s Dock Offices, into a modern, accessible and immersive visitor destination. The project carefully balanced conservation and adaptation, preserving the building’s historic character while enhancing its functionality and relevance for contemporary audiences. Through extensive restoration and sensitive redesign, the museum has been reimagined to tell Hull’s rich maritime story in new and engaging ways.
In the Sustainability & Social Impact Award category, the nomination celebrates the comprehensive refurbishment of Queen’s Gardens, completed in May 2026, which has secured the long-term future of one of Hull’s most important civic green spaces. The scheme addressed a range of structural, environmental and accessibility challenges, including deteriorating infrastructure, failing retaining walls, ageing trees and inaccessible routes, while preserving the site’s historic significance. Heritage conservation and storytelling sit at the heart of the project, ensuring the gardens remain both a valued public space and an important part of Hull’s history.
These two nominations shine a spotlight on the work undertaken by Hull City Council’s teams as part of the wider Hull Maritime programme, which is helping to preserve, celebrate and share the city’s unique maritime heritage while creating lasting benefits for residents and visitors.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Being shortlisted in two categories at the Insider Yorkshire Property Awards is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication, expertise and ambition of our teams and project partners.
“Both Hull Maritime Museum and Queen’s Gardens demonstrate our commitment to protecting Hull’s heritage while creating high-quality, accessible spaces that can be enjoyed by current and future generations.
“These projects have transformed significant historic assets, delivering social, cultural and environmental benefits for the city, and we are delighted to see that work recognised at a regional level. We look forward to joining colleagues from across Yorkshire at the awards ceremony in September.”
