Hull city centre is set to come alive this summer with a packed programme of free maritime-themed events and activities for families to enjoy throughout the school holidays.

To mark the highly anticipated opening of the Hull Maritime Museum and as part of Hull's Summer of Maritime celebrations. visitors can look forward to an exciting programme of family-friendly entertainment that celebrates the city's rich maritime heritage through creativity, adventure and discovery.

From Saturday 25 July, the city centre will burst into life with a wave of maritime-themed activities. From spectacular giant sand sculptures and lively theatrical performances in Queen Victoria Square, to oversized deckchairs, seaside-themed photo opportunities and hands-on craft activities in the Museums Quarter, there will be something to entertain visitors of all ages.

Councillor Jackie Dad, deputy leader and portfolio holder for culture, said: “Hull has a unique maritime story to tell, and this summer we're inviting residents and visitors alike to experience it in a fun, interactive and engaging way.

“Whether you're collecting passport stamps, meeting our colourful characters in Queen Victoria Square, getting creative in the Museums Quarter or simply enjoying a family day out, there's something for everyone to enjoy throughout the holidays and the perfect opportunity to create unforgettable memories together.”

Young explorers can also take on the Hull Museums Summer Passport Challenge. Families can collect a special Summer of Maritime Passport and visit Hull Maritime Museum, Ferens Art Gallery, Spurn Lightship and Museums Quarter venues to gather stamps along the way. Completed passports will be entered into a prize draw, offering the chance to win fantastic family prizes.

Queen Victoria Square will provide a lively focal point throughout the summer, with a changing programme of walkabout performances and interactive entertainment. Keep an eye out for mischievous pirates, giant seagulls and the ever-curious octopus duo, Cali and Mari, as they make surprise appearances and delight visitors with their seaside antics.

Alongside the outdoor programme, Hull's museums and galleries will offer a range of family activities, exhibitions and opportunities to discover the stories that have shaped the city's maritime identity, creating a summer packed with exploration, creativity and fun.

Visitors can make a full day of their maritime adventure with food and refreshments available across the city centre. Hungry travellers will be well catered for at the cafés in Hull Maritime Museum and Ferens Art Gallery, while those exploring the Museums Quarter can enjoy a well-earned summer treat from the traditional ice cream bike located in the museum gardens.
