Garfield Weston Foundation has awarded the Hull Maritime Foundation (HMF) a generous £300,000 grant in support of the city’s maritime project.
This latest grant will contribute to the return of over 1,300 historic maritime artefacts to the refurbished Hull Maritime Museum, as well as support the relocation of the Arctic Corsair to its new permanent home at the North End Shipyard.
The artefacts from the museum, currently held in storage, will be carefully checked, logged, and prepared for display with custom mounts ahead of reopening.
This is the second significant grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation to Hull Maritime Foundation. In 2020, the Foundation awarded £350,000 towards the extensive refurbishment of the Maritime Museum.
David Atkinson, Chair of Hull Maritime Foundation, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Garfield Weston Foundation for their continued support. This grant marks a major milestone in our efforts to preserve and share Hull’s maritime story with the world. Their renewed commitment shows real confidence in our project and in the cultural significance of our city’s maritime past.”
The Garfield Weston Foundation is a trust that supports a wide range of charities across the UK. Each year, around 1,900 charities benefit from its funding, with a strong focus on supporting projects that serve local communities and volunteer-led organisations.
By supporting the Hull Maritime Foundation again, the Foundation reinforces the importance of protecting and celebrating Hull’s maritime heritage for future generations.
