Colliderfest announces a series of “Lates”, lectures, talks and workshops for the more mature curious minds.

The Colliderfest Lates programme features evening events specifically curated for adult audiences, designed to spark curiosity and challenge perspectives.

Hosted in partnership with the University of Hull, Hull Maritime Project, and Hull City Council, Colliderfest 2025 promises thought-provoking discussions and immersive experiences like never before.

Colliderfest Lates is part of the wider Colliderfest programme for Hull’s first science and arts festival taking place between Friday 14 – Sunday 16 March in various zones within Hull city centre, The Deep and the University of Hull.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Colliderfest Lates is an extraordinary opportunity for the older and curious audience to immerse themselves in a world of science, technology, and creativity. Our evening programme is designed to captivate and inspire, featuring a diverse array of lectures, talks and workshops.

“Whether you're a seasoned science enthusiast or simply curious about the wonders of the universe, Colliderfest Lates promises an unforgettable experience that will ignite your passion for discovery and learning. Join us for a programme of exploration and excitement, and let your curiosity lead the way!"

Parkrun: The World’s Largest Public Health Promotion in Physical Activity?
Thursday 13 March, 6.30pm at University of Hull, Brynmor Jones Library. £3
Professor Steve Haake will delve into the impact of Parkrun on its participants, drawing from surveys of over 170,000 people across the UK, Ireland, and Australia.

Rob Peace Film screening + Virtual Q&A with Chiwetel Ejiofor CBE
Thursday 13 March
, 6.30pm at University of Hull, Middleton Hall. £7 adults, £4 Students
Join us for a special screening of Rob Peace, the latest film from Oscar-nominated actor and director Chiwetel Ejiofor CBE (12 Years a Slave, Doctor Strange). After the screening, Ejiofor will join ColliderFest director Professor Mark Lorch for an insightful discussion on opportunity, inequality, and the barriers to higher education.

AstroMixology: The Physics of Fluid Mixing
Thursday 13 March, 7pm at Sailmakers Arms, Function Room. £3
From the swirls in your coffee to the merging of galaxies, hydrodynamics shapes the universe. This evening talk will blend science and spectacle, revealing how the same principles govern everything from cocktails to cosmic collisions.

Starlight journeys across the unfathomable depths of the cosmos to reach the eyes of people all over our small blue planet. The nightly constellations are more than just star signs; they are entwined with mythologies from across the globe and throughout human history. Join us to explore the enduring cultural significance of the night sky.

Bringing breathlessness into View followed by Every Second Breath: Ocean Yoga Flow
Friday 14 March, 6.30pm at Brynmor Jones Library University of Hull FREE
Bringing breathlessness into view exhibition and talk about both the impact of breathlessness and how to live well with it, then join Ocean Generation for a seated version of their Ocean-themed Yoga Flow. Explore a seated yoga practice alongside stories and philosophies.

Join us and find out how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is integrated into various aspects of daily life. From healthcare and education to Google Maps, online shopping, ChatGPT, and many other emerging or widely used technologies, AI has become embedded in our daily routines—often without us realising it. The event begins with a short, engaging presentation that explains AI basics and highlights examples of AI in familiar settings.

Colliderfest 2025 is where science meets society, cinema meets conversation, and discovery meets delight. Don't miss this extraordinary festival celebrating knowledge, creativity, and the power of ideas.

As part of programme an evening spectacle ‘Colliderfest After Dark’ will take place on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 March, from 6.30 - 9.30pm. It will bring something special with a bright, psychedelic light and sound installation across Queen Victoria Square, Beverley Gate, Whitefriargate and Trinity Square.
