To mark National Volunteers Week, 2 – 8 June, Hull Maritime would like to thank the fantastic HEY! Volunteers.

Since Hull’s year as City of Culture in 2017, volunteers have played an ever-increasing role in the maritime project. Since Hull’s year ended in 2017, HEY! Volunteers have given 12,083 hours or 1,726 days to the Hull Maritime project. Their amazing support has allowed us to deliver tours, family activities, large scale events and weekly drop-in sessions – and that’s before we have a site open.

The HEY! volunteers and our existing team of dedicated Arctic Corsair volunteers have enjoyed volunteering together on new opportunities whilst the ship undergoes restoration work. Many of the Arctic Corsair volunteers chose to sign up as HEY! volunteers to gain new experiences.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: "Volunteering for the Hull Maritime project is more than just giving time - it’s about being part of a legacy. Our volunteers are at the heart of bringing Hull’s maritime heritage to life, helping to share our city’s proud story with the world. Their passion and dedication are vital to making this transformation a success especially when the maritime attractions reopen and we are incredibly grateful for the difference they make."

Ahead of the Spurn Lightship opening we’re asking all HEY! volunteers to register their interest and help us plan shifts by completing a short survey here.

If you’re interested in joining HEY! Volunteering and the team on the Spurn Lightship watch this space, we’ll be recruiting jointly soon!
