The Hull Maritime project is encouraging businesses to help inform a procurement exercise to conserve and restore two of the city’s historic ships.
Input from businesses will help to inform the procurement approach when it is expected to go live next month.
A key element of the £30m regeneration project is to conserve, renovate and refurbish two of Hull’s most important ships, The Arctic Corsair and Spurn Lightship, securing their future for a further 100 years to showcase their maritime significance to the world.
Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Portfolio Holder for Economic Investment, Regeneration, Planning, Land and Property, said: “The Arctic Corsair and the Spurn Lightship are key symbols of Hull’s trawling and maritime heritage. They will be sensitively conserve them so future generations can discover, explore and learn more about their history and heroic past.
“This market testing exercise will help inform the procurement approach for this specialist work and provide an indication to the level of interest in restoring two key maritime treasures.”
As part of the Hull Maritime project, the Arctic Corsair will be restored and then dry-berthed at the North End Shipyard, along with a new visitor centre and increased access. The Spurn Lightship will remain a key landmark in Hull Marina.
It is anticipated that an open procurement process for this contract will begin in July, with a contract start date for the winter and lasting one year.
