Hull City Council leader, Councillor Mike Ross responds on behalf of the council to the news about the passing of Ron Wilkinson, Chair of STAND.
Councillor Mike Ross, said: “We are truly saddened at the loss of Ron and would like to share our sincerest condolences with his family, friends, and loved ones.
“Ron was one of a kind, with fishing in his blood. He showed great dedication to his role at STAND and his passion to create a lasting memorial for the city to remember the thousands of fishermen who went to sea and never returned home. Work to construct the memorial will continue and his legacy will live on for generations to come.
“I am sure his loss will be felt greatly within the city and fishing community. Ron will be remembered for his warmth, his fascinating stories and wealth of knowledge and experience following a long and successful career at sea.”
