Nova’s creative workshops are back as Hull Maritime embarks on a weeklong celebration of Hull’s seafaring identity.

Maritime Tales Week is a packed programme from Saturday 22 to Saturday 29 October exploring Hull’s maritime past, present and future.

The celebrations coincide will with the next installment of Nova’s digital and creative skills project as three young Hullensian filmmakers get to work on the latter stages of the programme.

Since the first sessions in summer 2021, Nova have worked with some of the city’s leading creatives to facilitate the project in which young artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians contribute to works inspired by their own identities and experiences of life in Hull.

Led by the Nova team, filmmaking workshops will take place across three days this week, starting with an introduction, concept development and camera skills session at Juice Studios, before a tour around the city’s old town with Paul Schofield.

The group will work to a brief informed by the work created by the writers group back in 2021, with each filmmaker assigned a passage and tasked with providing a visual accompaniment to the words.

Days two and three of the workshops will focus on the practical creation of the films with filmmakers shooting content around Hull City Centre before returning to Nova HQ to edit and mix their films.

The films will be made available to the public as part of the opening of the newly refurbished Maritime Museum.
