A live sea shanty will take place at Ferens Art Gallery on 6 April.
The Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project has been working closely with a group of students from the Backstage Academy to organise a sea shanty concert at the Ferens Art Gallery.
Backstage Academy, based in Wakefield, offers their students degree qualifications in a range of backstage and production roles, with both academic and practical elements used in their teaching. Working towards their qualifications, a number of students have been collaborating with project staff to organise and deliver what is sure to be a very popular event.
Sea shanties offer a musical link to the sea, the music and lyrics invariably invoking powerful images of the many people who sailed and worked in the many shoreline trades. For this wonderful event, Spare Hands, a Hull favourite, will be joining the Lytham St Anne’s Shanty Crew to bring the city’s maritime links to life.
The event is taking place in the studio space at the Ferens Art Gallery on 6 April, from 2 – 6pm. The gallery will close to the public at 4.30pm.
Tickets are £5 and are available online from the Hull Box Office or in person from the Box Office, adjoining the City Hall. Some tickets may be available on the door.
