Hull Maritime’s popular guided maritime tours have been nominated for the prestigious Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs) in the highly competitive ‘Visitor Experience’ category.

The winners will be announced at a grand ceremony on 14 November 2024, at Bridlington Spa. ‘Mystery shopping’ and judging will take place over the next month ahead of the awards ceremony.

The finalists are:

Hull Maritime Guided Tours
Cow Cudding – Dumble Farm
RSPB Bempton Cliffs Seabird Cruises
Wold Rangers Way, Driffield

These guided walks, which delve into the rich maritime history of Hull, have captivated both locals and visitors alike, showcasing how the city has been shaped by its past, present, and future. The tours are led by a dedicated team of 17 volunteers who are accredited White Badge tour guides, ensuring a high-quality experience for all participants.

Starting at the Museum Quarter gardens, the tours offer a comprehensive journey through Hull’s maritime heritage. The morning tours, which last up to 2 ½ hours, include significant landmarks such as the future location of the Arctic Corsair at North End Shipyard, Queens Gardens, the exterior of the Maritime Museum, and the new home of the Spurn Lightship in Hull Marina. Other notable stops include Blaydes House, Trinity House, and Hull Marina. Additionally, a shorter walk is available every Sunday at 1:30 pm for those with limited time.

The maritime guided tours saw a 50 per cent increase in visitors during 2023.

Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, praised the nomination, stating, "Our guided tours provide an informative experience that brings Hull’s maritime history to life. Being shortlisted for this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, and we are thrilled to see their efforts recognised."

The tours take place every Thursday and Saturday at 10.30am, and on Sundays at 11.30am and 1.30pm. Book your place here.

Hull Maritime is an initiative funded by Hull City Council and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with the support of National Lottery players. The project encompasses the redevelopment of five historic sites in Hull city centre, including the transformation of the Grade II listed Hull Maritime Museum and Dock Office Chambers, the creation of a new visitor attraction at North End Shipyard, and the restoration of two historic vessels, the Arctic Corsair and Spurn Lightship.
