2nd June 2021

20 volunteers have started the Institute of Tour Guiding Level 2 accredited training programme to enable them to deliver maritime guided tours, showcasing our historic maritime sites.

The four month course will include practical training and lectures by Professor David Starkey and Dr Martin Wilcox from the University of Hull and local blue badge guide, Paul Schofield.

The volunteers were looking forward to finally starting the training which was due to begin in March 2020.

Experienced participant Justine who has volunteered for Hull Museums, Absolutely Cultured and York Minster said “I’m looking forward to this fantastic opportunity and sharing information about our city."

In late July, the volunteers will be practicing their tours ahead of their examinations and local people will be invited to support them.

By completing the training the volunteers will be able to meet the ITG’s level 2 standard and be able to wear the nationally recognised White Badge, delivering a tour that will link the Maritime Museum, North End Shipyard and the Spurn Lightship.
