Exciting progress as the first trees to be planted within Queens Gardens have been lifted, rootballed and prepared for transportation to Hull.

Rootballing is the process of skilfully removing the trees from the fields from which they have been grown, and carefully wrapping the roots and surrounding soil in layers of hessian and wire mesh to ensure they are stable and suitably protected for transportation.

When the trees arrive, they will be planted directly into the pre prepared tree pits, without removing any of the layers of mesh/hessian (this will quickly decompose as the trees establish).

The root balls are then secured below ground to stabilise the trees while they establish a new root structure in the gardens.

The first trees will be in transit over the coming weekend, with the first trees arriving on site on Monday 22 November.
