My name is Ian Martin and I am one of Hull Maritime Tour Guides.

This is the MV Teano one of Wilsons ships.

As you can see from the newspaper clipping we were just entering Alexandra Dock after a trip to Norrkoping in Sweden. We used to bring back timber and what we called ' giant toilet rolls' (if you look closely at the photo of me sat on the deck you can see them on the Quayside waiting to be loaded ).

As you can see from the other photos they were destined to be used for newsprint or paper products. One photo shows rolls being delivered to the Hull Daily Mail Printers which used to be opposite Hammond's store. In fact you could see the paper being printed through the large windows opposite the store.

It was fascinating watching the huge ' toilet rolls spinning around as they came off the reel. The other photo shows the rolls at the Papropak factory on Hedon Road, used to make paper sacks and other products.
