Hull is one of the world's great maritime cities. It is a place where ships and seafarers have come and gone for hundreds of years, leaving in their wakes countless stories of excitement, danger, loss and triumph.

Between Saturday 24 October and Sunday 1 November, Maritime Tales Week will tell many of these incredible stories through an exciting mix of storytelling, film, theatre, crafts, poems and a whole lot more!

All of our performances will be available to watch online on either our Twitter, Facebook page or YouTube channel.

Sat 24 October, 6pm The Jumblies by Edward Lear Join Burnsy from Radio Humberside as he tells us the incredible tale of the Jumblies, who went to sea in a sieve. Written by Edward Lear. Families This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.
Sat 24 October, 7pm Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge Enjoy a reading of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's classic poem, in which an ancient mariner recalls a hauting and deadly voyage. Adults This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.
Sun 25 October, 12noon Behind the Scences: The Hull Maritime Museum Get the inside scoop on some of the exciting changes that the Hull: Yorkshire's Maritime City Project will bring to the Hull Maritime Museum. Mon 26 October, 1pm Crafts for Kids: Build a Boat It's time to get crafty as Jemma and Rachel show us how to build our own boats. Where will you sail to with yours? Families This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.

Mon 26 October, 7pm The Diary of the Last Leviathans. Episode One: The Diana Sets Sail Written and performed by Theatre on the Edge, The Diary of the Last Leviathans tells the harrowing story of a Hull whaling ship's voyage to the Arctic in 1866. In Episode One, the crew of The Diana set sail in good cheer but are unware that trouble is on the horizon. Tue 27 October, 12noon The Odyssey by Homer Enjoy an excerpt from Homer's epic poem about the seafaring adventures of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he tries to make his way home after the Trojan War. Adults This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.

Tue 27 October, 7pm The Diary of the Last Leviathans. Episode 2: In Search of Whales Written and performed by Theatre on the Edge, The Diary of the Last Leviathans tells the harrowing story of a Hull whaling ship's voyage to the Arctic in 1866. Wed 28 October, 1pm Crafts for Kids: Create some Scrimshaw It's time to get crafty as Jemma and Rachel show us how to create and decorate our own piece of replica scrimshaw. Families This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.

Wed 28 October, 7pm The Diary of the Last Leviathans. Episode 3: The Struggle for Survival Written and performed by Theatre on the Edge, The Diary of the Last Leviathans tells the harrowing story of a Hull whaling ship's voyage to the Arctic in 1866. In Episode Three, the crew of The Diana struggle in the face of ice cold conditions. Adults This performance will be able to be viewed on our Facebook​ page and YouTube channel.

Thur 29 October, 7pm The Diary of the Last Leviathans. Episode Four: Trapped in the Ice Written and performed by Theatre on the Edge, The Diary of the Last Leviathans tells the harrowing story of a Hull whaling ship's voyage to the Arctic in 1866.
